I have to admit I was rather surprised to keep reading the Windows 8 Mail app didn't support POP email accounts. I'd also read IMAP wasn't supported either, but in my testing and use I've found IMAP works, once you know how to set it up.
In the set-up screen for creating a new account in the Windows 8 Mail app you are offered the option to set up a POP email account. Selecting the option presents the following screen.
As you can see Windows 8 Mail app doesn't support POP3 email accounts. You may wish to take this into account when considering Windows 8.
