Which version is supported may be confusing, but the easiest way to think of it, is use the latest version of Internet Explorer available for your Windows operating system.
The versions of Windows Microsoft currently supports are Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10. The supported version of Internet Explorer for Vista is version 9. Version 9 is not support on any of the later versions of Windows. For Windows 7, 8/8.1 and Windows 10 you should use or upgrade to Internet Explorer 11.
If this gets to confusing or you run various versions of Windows and wish to have a browser you can use across all your systems, then Google Chrome supports Windows XP through to Windows 10. Support for Google Chrome on Windows XP will end in April this year.
