Today I read that Telstra had to change 35,000 passwords as a result of a hack attack on their game site.
Most people now use multiple online sites or services. The problem is many use the same password across their sites including their banking site.
People tend to think they're safe because if someone wanted to get into their account they'd be blocked after a few log on attempts. From what I've read, once the hackers get the database of usernames and passwords, even though passwords may be encrypted, they can work on the database offline until they crack the password. Then they have access to any of the services you may use that you use your email address to log on with.
Make sure you educate yourself on the exposure of using each online service. Think about using different passwords for different services.
The main aim of sharing this information is so that people are aware online services are being hacked on a regular basis and I'd even guess the major services are being attacked on a continual basis.
