MyAnswers: Adding text to a a graphic using Gimp 2.8.4 on a MacBook Air running Mavericks doesn't work.

When trying to add text in Gimp 2.8.4 on an Apple MacBook Air running Mavericks, after you click on the graphic and start typing the text does not appear and Gimp thinks you are using a keyboard shortcut. Quite unworkable.
